Target group

All staff and volunteers who work with and support children, young people and their families or carers, this includes staff and volunteers who predominantly work with children.
We are ‘Thinking Family’ in Hull and need everyone to understand how to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

Learning pathway
This course is the starting point for all other training courses. You must attend this course prior to applying for any other Safeguarding Children course.
Course aims

To develop awareness of, and the ability to act on, concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be aware of -

  • the local arrangements for safeguarding children and its remit
  • key issues around safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • roles, responsibilities, and local and national processes in Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of children and young people
  • what to do if they have concerns about children and young people, including those who are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm
  • information and background about the legislative framework within which children and young people’s welfare are safeguarded and promoted
  • the necessity for information sharing, effective communication and accurate recording
  • when and how to make a referral
  • what to do if you don’t agree with the decisions that are made to safeguard children and young people
