Before attending this course participants must have attended Safeguarding Children – A Shared Responsibility and Substance Misuse: Drug and Alcohol Awareness

Course details

To explore the impact of substance use on children and young people within the family. Identify the key messages in legislation, local and national guidance and associated documents. This is a full day course which is interactive and involves individual and group activities, during which participants will be expected to share their skills, knowledge and expertise

Learning outcomes

By the end of the programme we aim to be able to -

  • explore interventions which can be utilised through the safeguardingcontinuum from early help through to child protection
  • establish a common understanding of what constitutes substance use
  • explore the impact of parental substance misuse on children and youngpeople from their perspective
  • identify risk factors for children and young people living in families wheresubstance use is an issue and how this may impact on each stage of theirdevelopment
  • understand the legislative framework and guidance
  • identify protective factors which may be present for the child, young personand family and how this can increase resilience
